Stealing the Show
Denny Hulme takes the lead of the 1973 Swedish Grand Prix at Anderstorp, in his McLaren M23. After leading from the start, hometown hero Ronnie Peterson was denied his maiden win, losing the lead on the penultimate lap when his Lotus 72 picked up a slow puncture, enabling 'The Bear' to get by. It was the first G.P. victory for the M23 chassis, which would go on to be successful for years to come, taking the constructors, and drivers championship the following year, as well as drivers' title again in 1976. It was still being used successfully into 1977. The Lotus 72 was first used in 1970, and also enjoyed much success, helping to take the drivers' title in 1970, and '72, and was only replaced in 1975. Peterson would finally take his first win later in '73.
